Speakers Biographies
Sam Nasypbek is a portfolio manager for the currency and global tactical asset allocation portfolios managed by the World Bank pension plan. He is responsible for research and development of internally traded quantitative models as well as external manager evaluation and due diligence. Before joining the World Bank, Mr. Nasypbek was an economist at the central bank of the Kyrgyz Republic where he managed a portfolio of foreign exchange reserves. Mr. Nasypbek is currently a PhD Candidate in the School of Business at George Washington University, and holds an MA in Economics from Indiana University and BS in Finance from the University of Arizona.
Paul Anderson joined the Deutsche Bank Group in 1995 as a quantitative analyst in the Credit Risk Management division, before moving to Global Currencies and Commodities as a trader to help create and build the Complex Risk Trading Group. He currently has global responsibility for the Counterparty Credit Trading team in Foreign Exchange and Commodities.
Dr. Photios Harmantzis is a member of the Investment Management Research group at FX Concepts. His responsibilities include researching and developing new proprietary investment and trading models for the firm's portfolios. He has prior systematic trading hedge fund experience in the areas of Long/Short (Market Neutral) U.S. equities (fundamentals driven) and Long/Short U.S. credit (capital structure arbitrage).
His degrees include a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, an MBA from the Rotman School (U. Toronto) & Stern (NYU), and a Master's from the University of Pennsylvania.
Ryan Connolly, Director, Foreign Exchange Prime Services,
Americas
Ryan joined UBS in March 1999 in FX Operations based in Stamford, CT where he
served as a client service account manager. In 2002, he assumed the role as
manager of North America Treasury Product Operations which encompassed FX
Operations, Guaranteed Investment Contracts (GICs), and Precious Metals
Operations. In 2004, Ryan was tasked with establishing the first UBS Post-Trade
Services (PTS) team in the US which focused exclusively on client relationship
management. In 2005, Ryan assumed his current FX Prime Services marketing and
relationship management position within FICC Distribution focusing on FX Prime
Brokerage Sales, multi-asset class FX trading, electronic execution, and
vendor/client connectivity.
Ryan received a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1998 from Fairfield University
and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance in 2005 from Fairfield
University.
Paul Goldwhite joined the First Quadrant research department
in 2007.
Previously, Paul headed the Capital Markets Research group at Citigroup
Asset Management, and was responsible for asset allocation research. In prior
positions at Citigroup, he was involved with systematic equities, currency
overlay
and fixed-income analysis in portfolio management and research roles. Paul
started his career in 1985 at Morgan Stanley working on systematic equities. He
received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Yale University in 1984 and
became a CFA charterholder in 1990.
Dan Torrey heads New Business-Americas for ICAP Electronic
Broking (IEB), covering spot FX and cash Treasuries. ICAP’s global electronic
trading business takes place on the award-winning EBS and BrokerTec platforms.
Dan and his team’s primary focus is selling EBS Prime to hedge funds, CTAs, FCMs
and proprietary trading firms who seek access to EBS’ wholesale market
liquidity. EBS Prime customers trade in the name of an EBS Prime bank, allowing
for previously unavailable access to EBS prices and liquidity.
Prior to joining EBS in 2004, Dan was a Vice President in Sales at The Bank of
New York - ADR Division, where he was responsible for managing customer
relationships on both the sell side and buy side. Dan earned an MBA in Finance
from New York University Stern School of Business, and received a BA in
International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University.
